Sportfish can be stocked in new or existing ponds and lakes.  They can be used to help maintain a healthy aquatic ecosystem or can be managed for sport depending on your goals and the demands of your pond or lake.  Establishing clear objectives can help you tailor your needs.

Clark Buford Bait, Inc. is a Georgia DNR Authorized Triploid Sterile Grass Carp Dealer.


Sterile Triploid Grass Carp are a great addition to a pond where aquatic vegetation management is a problem. They are naturally voracious eaters. The state recommends 15-20 carp per infested acre.

Channel Catfish are a great addition to any pond or lake. They help to balance the ecosystem and can be beneficial to pond health. Catfish primarily eat other fish or aquatic animals, but may also eat some vegetation.

Bream can be stocked for sport or forage fish depending on the needs of your pond.

Three sizes available

Bluegill are the most common of the panfish found in the southeast.  They eat anything that they can fit in their mouths including insects, worms, and smaller fish like minnows. They spawn at each full moon of warm months (May-August).

FATHEAD MINNOWS

Sold per 1,000

Fathead minnows make an excellent forage fish for smaller fish.  They spawn nearly continuously during warm weather. These are great for a food source for smaller predatory fish like panfish, juvenile catfish, and young bass.  They are also a key component of good pond ecology and will help to reduce disease in other species.

SHINERS

Sold per pound

Shiners make an excellent forage fish for all predatory fish.  They spawn nearly continuously during warm weather making them an excellent renewable food source for bream, catfish, and bass.

THREADFIN SHAD

Available by request

Threadfin shad also can make a good forage fish in larger ponds with large bass.  They are filter feeders.  They mature quickly and spawn nearly continuously during warm weather. Threadfin shad are not tolerant cooler water and may die off if the water temp dips below 42 degrees.

SHELL CRACKER

Shell Cracker (also known as Red Ear or Sun Perch) are a species of panfish native to the Southeast.  This fish can reach up to 5 lbs (record 5 lbs 4 ounces).
